This two-hour workshop offers an overview of creating an effective Curriculum Vitae optimized for the international academic job market – whether you are interested in applying for teaching, research or administration positions. Designed for both those who are new to academic CV writing and those who are simply interested in revising their current CV, the workshop provides a basic template for "successful" CVs as well as ideas on various optional sections, information on non-traditional CVs and touching upon national-cultural practices for CV writing. We will discuss who needs a CV and why, as well as what the nuts and bolts are that go into making a readable one. We will also examine several professional samples – both “good” and “bad”. There will be a presentation on effective CV writing, with exercises on how to promote yourself and adapt your own information according to the requirements of a given institution, project or position. The workshop is aimed at RCC doctoral students, but is also open to others interested in fine-tuning their CV.
